As each woman’s journey through pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding is unique, I am always inspired by the transformation that takes place within each woman.

Anna Turyk

IBCLC, RM, BScN

Born and raised on the West Coast and a resident of Squamish I am thrilled to be offering Lactation Consulting services in the Sea to Sky corridor.

I am an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a Registered Midwife and a former Registered Nurse with experience working with women and babies over the past 16 years. I graduated from nursing school in 2008 and began my career at BC Children’s Hospital in the Oncology unit. Although I loved the work at BC Children’s Hospital, I wanted to be in the mountains. I moved to Squamish and worked as a public health nurse here in the Sea to Sky corridor. I spent two summers traveling to Northern BC and worked with the First Nations communities in Dease Lake and Old Masset. While working as a public health nurse I specialized in First Nations health, sexual health education and newborn and maternal health. It became clear that I had a passion for maternal and infant health and this guided me to the wonderful world of midwifery. Upon completion of my Bachelor of Midwifery at the University of British Columbia in 2015, I joined Roots Community Midwives and worked alongside the lovely midwives who guided me through the beginning of the most amazing journey.

Through midwifery I have witnessed the immense power of birth. As each woman’s journey through pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding is unique, I am always inspired by the transformation that takes place within each woman. My experiences as a midwife have shown me the art of patience and the power of being present. Birth has shown me the strength of women’s bodies and taught me to trust the natural birth process. I have grown as a professional and as a woman while being part of a very intimate time in a woman’s life.

Along this journey, I decided it was time to have my own babies and over the course of a few years, I gave birth to two beautiful girls in the comfort of our home. Being on the other side of birth has humbled me and has given me many lessons to take forward into other areas of the birthing world. I struggled immensely to breastfeed both of my babies but with support and dedication I was able to successfully breastfeed both. I have great empathy for the challenges women face in the postpartum time. Although breastfeeding is meant to be the most natural way to feed your baby, many women experience many different challenges. My passion for breastfeeding led me to become an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I wrote the certification exam in 2020 after completing the Douglas College Breastfeeding Course for Health Care Providers in 2019. After taking the time to raise my children, I am now offering lactation support to women and their families in the Sea to Sky corridor.

My life outside of the birthing and breastfeeding world is spent with my family in the mountains or on the water. I have a passion for adventure, travel and working in my garden at home.

I look forward to meeting you and your families.
